Tura Beach Photography Club - Latest News

Notes from Meeting Sunday 11 December

Thank you to all those members who came to Sunday night's meeting and welcome to all newcomers.  There were 29 of us at the meeting and 48 are now listed on the Members' Register, so the Club continues to grow.  Any suggestions for future meetings or activities continue to be welcomed as the new Club finds its feet.

For those who weren't able to make the meeting, the items discussed were:

  • feedback from the outing to Mark Gray's Gallery and suggestions for future outings and guest speakers;
  • the Bega Valley Shire Council Australia Day Photo Competition, details of which can be found on their website;
  • a photography exhibition is being held in Cuttagee from 2 - 9 January (look for the signposts) - early information about the exhibition can be found on the Narooma News website; and
  • the next outing which will be to Fishpen at 7:30 pm on Sunday, 8 January (meet around 7:15 to 7:20pm at the Mitchies' Jetty carpark) - if anyone new to photography would like to pair with a more experienced person, please let me know well in advance and we'll see what can be arranged.

Many members then took the opportunity to show the group their "Colour" photos (the theme agreed at the previous meeting). There was quite a selection of interpretations, making it an interesting and informative exercise. While there were many excellent photos, two that were particularly well received were the photo of the installation at the NSW Art Gallery by Joe Fitzpatrick, and the photo of the Sydney Opera House at night by Dennis Whitford.

It was agreed that, given the Bega Valley Shire Council photo competition, our theme for the next meeting would match that of the competition - images which reflect our unique, Australian way of life. Check out the BVSC link above for a full description. Joe Fitzpatrick has volunteered to set up a Flickr site so that, in future, members will be able to upload their photos to the site in advance of the meeting. This will streamline the process but members who choose to do so will still be able to bring their photos on thumbdrives. More information will be provided at the next meeting.

Dennis Whitford (with input from Linda Plummer) made the suggestion that we include a "Tips and Questions" agenda item at future meetings. If you have a specific question you'd like some advice on, or if you have a particular tip you've come across that works well, please bring them along to the next meeting.

Finally, as well as the outing on 8 January, please note in your diary the following details for the next meeting:

When: 7:30 pm, Sunday 15 January 2012

If you have any questions or items you'd like raised at this meeting, please let us know.
